Repair Prone Nightmare

Submitted by Pat - 10/4/2017

I purchased this refrigerator on May 28, 2014. It was first repaired within 14 months of purchase that cost approximately $260. Now I have a repair estimate of $825.00 plus. I will not put that money into this piece of junk. I will buy a new refrigerator--not Kitchenaid--and I will make sure to purchase the extended warranty. This model has been discontinued. I do have a Kitchenaid stove and dishwasher and they are great.

Don't bother

Submitted by Nic - 8/6/2017

This is the worst fridge I have ever used. I am so completely disgusted by this product. 2 years after having it completly stopped working. I had to argue with Kitchenaid to fix it. They sent a repairman out. He told me that he "basically replaced everything but the shell and they would have been better off giving us a new fidge." "They (Kichenaid) knew they built a bad product." Two years later the ice machine has started leaking any now the freezer door won't shut because of the constant ice build up..... Thanks Kitchenaid. I had my last fridge for 10+ years this one has been 4... Guess what brand I will never ever ever recommend.

The worst purchase ever!

Submitted by Michelle - 7/23/2017

I bought this refrigerator in November 2013 after having my previous KitchenAid refrigerator for 25+ years. For the last four years we have spent thousands of dollars repairing the icemaker, the water dispenser, the fridge, the freezer drawer, and my wood for that it it leaked all over on two occasions. As a schoolteacher and mother of three I do not have thousands of dollars laying around to go purchase a new refrigerator and yet that's what I'm being forced to do. You can bet that I will not be buying another KitchenAid however!

Constant problems. Poor design

Submitted by Joe - 7/11/2017

Built a brand new house and bought all my appliances at once. Went with kitchen aid for its good reputation for quality and reliability. So disappointed. Each appliance has one or more issues. But this review is about the refridgerator. Always has had an excessive amount of liquid collecting on inside ceiling. Initially thought excess condensation. Appliance repair guy said it was a known issue with ice maker. I asked if known issue = recall? Nope. Issue resurfaces, gets worse, realizes entire bottom of refridgerator covered in water. Water inlet leaks. Minor damage to hard wood floor. $400 repair. Minor complaints: ice maker jams a lot. Seems like a design flaw to store ice in the non-freezing refridgerator compartment. Also door latch system is a bad design. Kids/guest frequently leave door ajar because it doesn't close easily. Is there anything good? It keeps my food cold. That's a basic expectation. It looks fairly nice. Controls intuitive. But I didn't expect a $200 and a $400 repair on a 4 year old refridgerator. Don't even get me started on the Kitchen aid dishwasher I already replaced.

Freezer needed to be repaired twice....

Submitted by Zach - 7/10/2017

I like the features of this refrigerator, but the freezer was repaired twice under warantee and it broke again out of warranty. The entire cooling system of the freezer needs to be replaced, which we will not do. This will be the last Kitchenaid major appliance I ever buy.

Beware - Refrigerator has repeatedly had problems

Submitted by CAREN - 7/3/2017

We purchased this fridge a few years ago and were very excited when it was delivered. However shortly afterward, the problems started. The face/handle on the produce/crisper drawers did not last very long - they attach with small plastic tabs which broke soon after purchase. After purchasing a replacement part for a significant amount of $, the hand broke again. Finally after super-gluing it together it has stayed. About 7 months ago (about 3 years into our ownership) we had to have major repairs as the unit stopped cooling. Since that time, we have had 2 repairs to fix fans, the compressor, and during the last repair, the authorized technician stated that our freezer would likely be having problems soon as well. As predicted, we are less than a month from our last set of repairs, and the fridge is again not cooling properly. I am very disappointed with my refrigerator/kitchenaid experience, and am now purchasing a new replacement.

Real Lemon

Submitted by GW - 6/27/2017

Purchased refrigerator 4 1/2 years ago. Many things have gone wrong with refrigerator. A total of 10 service visits to fix a myriad of items so far. Unit makes lots of unusual noises. Guess what, currently waiting for it to be fixed again. Service plan is taking over 2 weeks for technician to come out. Still waiting and waiting. Last time refrigerator broke, it took over about a month for part to arrive. Also Service Plan's lemon clause only covers 4 events in one year. Count resets each year Contract is renewed. Very unhappy with the products quality. Save yourself the grief and do not buy this lemon!

Expensive paper weight

Submitted by Disappointed - 6/2/2017

I am terribly disappointed with kitchenaid. We bought this because it was assembled in USA, problems not the assembly but the cheap parts. We have, this is no exaggeration, have had thousands of dollars in repairs in warranty and out of warranty. And now the ice dispenser is not doing anything. The repairman said these fridges should have all been recalled. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. These fridges look nice but that's not the risk.

Worst appliance I have ever owned.

Submitted by Tony V - 6/1/2017

Bought this new and it has only had troubles. Freezer coils freezing, compressor unit, and something called a three way valve have all went bad. The first time it went bad was a couple of days before Thanksgiving. Had to throw away a couple of hundred dollars of food. This time, had to throw away another couple of hundred worth of food. I have nearly paid for the actual fridge twice after taking into account repairs. Now, it is looking I am simply going to have to buy another fridge. Needless to say, I will not be buying another KitchenAid. Horrible!!!

Has been Great

Submitted by R - 2/24/2017

When our long troubled Frigidaire finally died we went shopping. My mother has had a side by side Kitchen Aid since the early 1980's over 35 years ago and even her ice maker still works so they were a favorite from the beginning, but the higher prices leveled the field. Large, well lit, adaptable, well designed, and of heavier grade materials than most of the competitors, a deeply discounted floor model with a few small exterior scratches made this the easy choice. Within the first week we noticed that vegetables that typically went bad within a few days in our old Frigidaire were still in good condition after a week. Although we were unaware of it prior to our purchase this model has a "preserva" system that truly makes veggies last 2 or 3 times longer. After 6 months nothing has disappointed us and still very pleased with the purchase.

We bought this refrigerator less than 5 years ago & it is now out of warranty & needs a new compressor. We have had 4 service calls in 4 years for various items now we have received a $1500 quote to repair this PO..... We have had the freezer collect ice, the shelves crack, the inside collect water & the ice maker stop working. I am terribly disappointed with KitchenAid's quality or should i say lack of quality. Even the repair man said it isn't worth repairing because it will not last. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

Don't Buy!

Submitted by HNK - 1/25/2017

We bought this refrigerator 3 years ago. It started making a noise after about 6 months that gradually became louder until the fridge stopped cooling entirely at about 15 months. When I called Kitchenaid I was informed that my fridge had a 1 year warranty and was no longer covered. After paying for 3 service calls from different repair companies I was advised that the problem was with the enclosed cooling system and that Kitchenaid was aware of the problem. The same repair company advised me to read my warranty closely which I did. The warranty on the enclosed system was in fact 2 years. Kitchenaid advisors certainly knew this. After many calls back to Kitchenaid they agreed to pay for repairs. The service man that did the repairs advised me that they would not last. That the problem was in the design and would return. It has.... Refrigerator is now making the same noise and I cannot open freezer door as it is frozen shut.

Shop around - not reliable

Submitted by Unhappy - 12/14/2016

We bought this refrigerator along with all other Kitchenaid appliances as recommended by our builder. Exactly one year after its install and after the warranty was over we started having issues. Loud noises, beeping noises we couldn't stop. The appliance repair place we were referred to by Kitchenaid said these issues were common. He defrosted the freezer motor and the noises went away. 6 minths later the ice maker started leaking and the freezer wasn't keeping things frozen. The repair guy came out again and had to order some major parts including the ice maker. All the parts he ordered were recalled so the only cost was $200 for labor. It was a 2 hour appt. he had to replace 3 major things including the adapter, heater, and evaporator. It seems to be fine now but I'm surprised for a refrig only 2 years old. Will look at other brands when we have to replace this.

Major Design Flaws - Don't Buy It!!

Submitted by Joy - 11/14/2016

Beautiful looking fridge, but that's it. Cheap thin plastic tabs hold the drawers together, and we have replaced all the drawer fronts at different times (they fall off very easily) and have only had this fridge a couple of years. If you put ANYTHING in the drawers, the fronts fall off! They can't take normal everyday usage. Extended warranty would not cover it (said it was cosmetic, not functional... really??). Repairman showed me the tiny plastic tabs and laughed, that is all that's holding the drawer together? I complained to KitchenAid customer service who would not replace them either. Bad but expensive fridge, all show and looks but cheap construction, and untrustworthy company, too bad they won't stand up for their big name and back up their products. If one drawer failed, could be a fluke. When all three drawer fronts have fallen off bc of cheap plastic, that's a design flaw! We bought the Kitchenaid name, not knowing they don't live up to their reputation. Won't make that mistake again!

Really nice looking refrigerator. Too bad the ice maker does not work as well as it should. Any appliance this expensive should have a five year warranty. This refrigerator is designed well and works nicely, easy to fit lots of food in here, adjustable, lots of options. Only negative is that the icemaker seems to overflow a bit, the freezing area bleeds out and i see ice on the insider of the fridge in places it doesn't belong. but its working fine.

SO Frustrated

Submitted by DJ - 10/22/2016

We bought his refrigerator in 2013 along with stove, dishwasher, garbage compactor from KitchenAid. The refrigerator was loud from the beginning. But we overlooked this. In March of 2016 the freezer we out. 1 week later the top cooling area stopped cooling - called kitchen Aid repair and went through 2 service calls with different service companies before repair man was able to determine compressor was out. He replaced compressor - freezer worked but top cooling area will not get below 45-50 degrees. We called the repairman back - he told us to fill the refrigerator up with food and it would cool down. Called KitchenAid again the sent a different repair company who has been back 5 times - replace all parts they can think of and as of today October 22 - freezer and refrigerator not cooling at all - From March 2016 to October 2016 no refrigerator! SO tired of this! Waiting on repairman to contact KitchenAid to see what their resolution will be now. Gave 1 star or could not submit

Bad fridge and even WORSE company. what a shame. bought it because it was a kitchenaid. wont trust their products and customer service and suggest that you do not either.

Submitted by Tim - 9/20/2016

I have had to have this unit serviced 3 times in 3 years. Recently this model had a recalled part (compressor fan) with a service notice from Whirlpool. Despite them knowing it's broken then made me shell out $360 to fix it. Don't be fooled by the KitchenAid brand. It's the same entry level junk they sell as Whirlpool. Complete shakedown.

Worst Appliance Decision we've ever made

Submitted by Fridgeless in Phoenix - 9/20/2016

BEWARE - TRUTH following - this submission is NOT part of a sweepstakes entry and therefore it is totally honest. We bought this refrigerator 3 years ago. First, as soon as we got it home we realized it was SO NOISEY! Since then, all 3 drawers have broken (not covered in warranty), the ice maker/water dispenser leaks/drips gathers water under the little drip catcher thing, but without you being able to see it. As a result, slowly water started to gather behind the door, and rusted out the front of the fridge (also, not covered..."cosmetic"). And FINALLY, about a month ago, the freezer went out, just stopped working. We spent 40+ days with the warranty company reviewing the claim, during which time the FRIDGE also started going out. They've sent TWO separate service providers out to try and fix it - BOTH of whom told them it wasn't worth fixing (seriously - an appliance that should last 10 years is so bad its not worth repairing after 3?! - two separate control boards, a compressor, etc), finally the warranty company said Kitchen Aid would fix it - IF WE Paid for it up front. You have to be kidding!! Today the warranty company said they will replace it with a similar Kitchen Aid (which received 1.4 stars on other review sites and is now...only available to ship direct from Kitchen Aid - hmmm - I wonder why?!). So, we paid and incredible amount of money 3 years ago for the PLEASURE of an awful appliance, tons of spoiled food, crazy inconveniences (try feeding a family of 5 in the Phoenix heat in the summer without a working freezer or fridge!). RUN - do not WALK away from these Kitchen Aid refrigerators!

An Expensive Bad Decision

Submitted by Hfjjdjd - 8/21/2016

The long draw broke within the first month. Bought an extended year warranty (from another establishment), but the drawers are only covered for the first month. I didn't call right away for the replacement since I thought I had a year and called a week too late. The display for the long drawer doesn't work either. We also had one of the smaller drawers break as well all in the first year. The ice maker is so slow that it takes two days to refill. If we have a small get together (3-5 people), then we have to go buy ice. If you don't change the water filter in time then it will stop making ice and allowing you to get water out of the front. You can easily remove and reinsert the old filter to buy you some more time. Overall, I wish that I would have bought a 4 door fridge. The only reason it gets two stars is because it does keep our food cold, but I paid the extra money for the extra features that are falling short. I just feel like this product is not going to last.

Terrible KitchenAid Refrigerator - Do NOT Waste Your Money

Submitted by Jennifer - 7/30/2016

We bought the KFIS29PBMS00 Kitchenaid refrigerator, serial number, K22403741, in 2012. Up until then, we had always purchased standard, basic fridges that were always workhorses. My husband and I decided to "invest" in this fridge - stainless steel, very pretty, numerous features, etc. It has been the WORST refrigerator. Not only is it ridiculously loud, but now for the second time, my freezer and ice machine is not working. One repair man confessed that he had heard that there is a defect with this model. What a piece of junk! I should have bought the simple, less-expensive refrigerator - at least I could depend on those type of machines to keep my food cold and frozen. Now, with all my food ruining in my freezer today, I have to call yet another repair man. I'm at the point of just giving up, and purchasing another refrigerator, but believe me, it will not be Kitchenaid.

I bought this about 2 months ago and it's been great. It has lots of room, easy access to everything, and is easily configurable. It is a little noisy - sometimes sounds like an airplane taking off. I also do wish it had a better stopper on refrigerator door - mine is placed where it is recessed in a space so is about 6 inches back from the counter that is next to it. Have to be very careful when opening the door that it doesn't hit into the corner of the counter. Have not yet been offered a solution to putting a stopper on the hinge, but hope to come up with something.

Never ending problems

Submitted by Erin - 5/26/2016

This fridge was installed about two and a half years ago new. It started making loud noises in the beginning of February, and slowly stopped working. We called the store where we purchased it. They took the fridge, said there was a leak. Almost two months later, fridge was returned (they said they were waiting for a part and that this part was problematic on this fridge (evaporator?)).The fridge did not last two weeks when the loud sound returned. This time they came and replaced the relay boards and invoiced us $600. Less than a week later the fridge is making even louder sounds. They came to look at it and told us the relay boards were not the issue. The fridge stopped working this past weekend and they want to take it back to the shop. We bought KitchenAid appliances for our entire kitchen and have had no other issues with any of them. Is this problem due to faulty parts on this fridge? Is it common? Or is the issue with where we purchased the fridge?

Be Prepared To Replace Lots of Parts

Submitted by John - 5/21/2016

We bought this refrigerator a 2 years ago. Whatever you save in price, you will loose in replacing parts. To date we have replaced 2 drawers b/c they are cheap plastic. We just replaced a cracked reservoir that caused water to drip out everywhere. The parts are cheaply made but costly. Kitchenaid did pay for reservoir even though it was not covered. We had to pay $350 labor. Our previous refrigerator lasted 6+ years and no issues.

Stick to Mixers not refrigerators

Submitted by Jeff - 5/5/2016

This refrigerator is worthless. This is the 4th repair in 2 years. Ice Dispenser/Water not working. Serviceman ordered 2 circuits boards. Replaced them and still not working and now the whole refrigerator is not cooling. Needs a compressor which was replaced a little over a year ago, but still haven't fixed the original problem. I spent good money buying what I thought was a 'quality name brand' appliance. What a joke. They should stick with Mixers.

Our experience with Kitchen Aid has been both good and bad.My husband and I replaced our gas stove, dishwasher and fridge, with all Kitchen Aid products. They were installed April 9,2016 and since that day the water and ice dispenser NEVER worked correctly. We cannot use the ice maker because when it fills the water comes out of the water dispenser,at least half a glass each time.It has been frustrating to say the least. New fridge and it does not work properly, not to mention we paid over $2000. and made in America. A technician is coming tomorrow May 4,2016 hopefully to rectify the problem.

Extremely disappointed

Submitted by Ticked off - 2/24/2016

This fridge was installed in November. The ice maker had NEVER worked. After 5 service visits later it still doesn't work and after the last visit the freezer fan keeps shooting out and causing the freezer to lose power. Trying to work with my retailer to get problem fixed or get a different unit. I have read other reviews where kitchen aid stonewalls until warranty expires. We will see!

Love my Kitchenaid.

Submitted by Sherrye - 2/20/2016

When I moved into my new home I had purchased a complete kitchen package of LG appliances. Big mistake. My $3600 r/f went on the blink in the first month. After several attempts to get that fixed that company finally revealed they didn't make repair parts for it and gave me my money back. Oh by the way. We don't want the refrigerator either. So, I then looked at the kitchenaid. Can we say I love my new fridge. Not only is it out performing the LG it is so much more organized in space. They didn't forget a thing. I personally think that kitchen aid is one of the best produced, highest quality products that you can purchase today. I am once again a happy camper.

Disappointed

Submitted by Mike - 2/14/2016

We've had three service calls within the first year to resolve excessive frost buildup. Unit bought in April 2014. The frost was accumulating to the point of preventing the freezer door from opening. Tech replaced multiple seals and applied sealant in a few locations. It seemed to help until this past weekend (Feb 2016) when the unit stopped working. A 12 hour long defrost with the doors open produced an amazing amount of water, which overflowed the evaporation tray. After 24 hours of running the unit is still warm, at 45 degrees in the refrigerator. Deeply disappointed in the unit. We have the extended warranty, but hesitant to replace with the same make and model.

bad refrigerator bad service

Submitted by jack - 1/29/2016

bought almost two years ago and just short of one year old the problems started. waiting on the 6th repair now, all for the same problem. water and ice coming from the ice maker. service has replaced rear tower twice, circuit boards, heater twice i was told, then last tech said once. now it is leaking from the ice storage container and from the ice maker. motor is way to loud for a "high end" appliance. food in freezer seems to freeze and thaw at will and food on top shelf of refrigerator freeze then turn bad. seems as if problems are being put off till extended warranty expires so they can claim not our problem.

Did not expect such piece of junk from Kitchenaid

Submitted by Gordana - 1/10/2016

Bought the fridge in January 2013. Since we bought 5 Kitchenaid appliances we decided to get extended warranty for three of them. That was smartest decision we made since we never buy extended warranty, thinking if it is lemon it will break within first year. In December 2014 made the first service call since it started beeping because it thought that there was no power. Also deli drawer display stopped working. Technician came and fixed it. It took him few hours to dismantle freezer drawers to access the motor at the back which was encrusted in ice. His explanation was that the freezer door were not properly closing, therefore ice buildup. In December 2015 it completely stopped cooling, both freezer and fridge. Technician came and replaced leaking evaporator (did not see anything on the floor.) However it still didn't cool anything, temperature was 18C inside the fridge. He came second time to diagnose what it is and explained the the cooling is not circulating at all. He ordered new part but of course it took forever for him to come back again with part to replace since it was Christmas and New Year holiday. After he replaced the part the fridge still didn't cool anything. We were told that the fridge is irreparable. Or maybe it is cheaper for them the give us the credit and get new fridge insted of trying to fix it. For current comparable model to this Kitchenaid fridge I would have to pay difference in price (additional 1300), but I figured that it is not worth it. Now I am waiting to have delivered Whirlpool fridge which has comparable features with my current Kitchenaid, and I am sure the parts are the same except the name on the fridge front. I will never buy another Kitchenaid major appliance! I got extended warranty again for the fridge just in case.

Run do not walk away from this fridge

Submitted by John - 1/6/2016

First the ice maker caused interior freezing in the fridge compartment - was replaced. Then the water intake valve cracked (plastic part) causing a major insurance claim to refinish hardwood floor. I like the layout and roominess but HATE the quality.

AMAZING INVESTMENT!!!!

Submitted by Kazmier - 12/6/2015

I purchased this a few weeks after returning from Afghanistan. My wife and I love the amount of space and options there are. The only thing I don't like is that there is some ice build-up in the upper back-left corner from the ice maker, that we have not yet figured out how to stop after numerous tries at various temperature settings.

New house and wanted a REAL frig!

Submitted by Shoesrchocolate - 12/1/2015

We moved into a new house and needed a frig to match. I had never had the "newer" style of frigs. It is a nice frig. However, there was a indentation in the gasket around the freezer drawer that had to be replaced bc it allowed the freezer to frost and let air in. I do recommend the white interior bc it is brighter versus the platinum (grey) which is dark. I wish it had been offered in a finger printless version. Way hard to keep clean.

Nice fridge

Submitted by Tracy L. - 11/25/2015

It is nicely designed and stores a good amount of food. The unfortunate part is the noise coming from the water filter. I changed the filter and the noise did not go away. Then I called a serviceman who came out and told me there was basically nothing to do "it was just a noise". I was called a day later and informed that an estimate, which I wasn't expecting would be around 600.00 and would not guarantee the removal of the noise. Not so nice now. We are really disappointed.

Shut your browser and find another refrigerator

Submitted by Kat - 11/17/2015

I wish I could go back in time and pay heed to the bad reviews this model got. I have a lemon and no way to get it exchanged so basically I'm out a few thousand dollars. I've had at least five work orders on this model and still is not working. Have had the evaporator pan replaced, dryer replaced, compressor replaced. Currently there are issues with gaskets and air tower - so no ice and water leaking on floor for months while the parts are backordered. Latest fun is the horrible noise the freezer is making which you can hear through whole house. Maybe the compressor again or the dryer? Who knows? According to Kitchen Aid customer service, who are sweet but seem to have limited option, all I can do is keep getting things fixed as they break. So about every two months I'm calling the company I purchased it from and wait for them to come look at it, then get parts and fix it. Have to leave work every time and several times have had to clear out the refrigerator and freezer - which is not convenient to say the least. Two working parents and four kids means this situation with a bad appliance is not acceptable. One of the techs said buy Samsung. I will listen to him next time. This is way too much money to have such a terrible model and apparently this company is not standing behind their product. Don't make the same mistake I did. Pay attention to the reviews!
